This painting evolved from an interview with a partially sighted person living with an astigmatism.
“Sometimes the lights blur and I get diagonal flashes coming out above and below each light”
Astigmatism
Astigmatism affects the cornea which is the very front surface of the eye. People who have astigmatism have more of a “rugby ball shaped eye” meaning their cornea is not spherical. Often people experience star bursts around lights and problems with glare. This can usually be corrected by spectacles or contact lenses.
